Mozart-Sister of the Genius |
"There was never a time when he was
not in love," said a close friend of Ludwig van Beethoven; yet he
never married. Who are these women whom the great composer loved, revered
and turned away from? What prevented their union with this titan of musicians? These questions puzzled pianist/actress Marilyn Pohlhammer, and her pursuit of an answer led her to study in Germany, Austria and the US. The result is an original two-act play entitled, "Oh Ludwig!" |

| With Love From A Baritone | "Oh Ludwig!" gives insight
into the life and personality of Ludwig van Beethoven from the viewpoint
of three of the women who loved him: Eleonore, a childhood friend and
first sweetheart, Princess Lichnowsky who helped to support him and Giulietta,
whose parents forbade her to marry him, as well as housekeeper, Frau
Schnapps, are portrayed by Marilyn Pohlhammer with empathy, inspiration
and humor. Woven into the drama is the stirring music of Beethoven performed live on piano and vocals by Marilyn and Donald Pohlhammer. Donald also acts as narrator and audio visual engineer of the production. Beethoven's voice, narration and orchestral music are recorded on CD. Photography was done on location in Germany and Austria by the Pohlhammers, resulting in a multi-media musical drama. The emotional drama builds as the women reveal their feelings for Ludwig van Beethoven. |
